About Me

Hi, I’m George Wicker — a retired printer, copywriter, and web designer who now spends most of my time writing and making music. Originally from London, I’ve called Suffolk home for nearly 40 years. Here, I create poetry, fiction, songs, and musings on life, working from the home I share with my partner, Nancy, an artist. Together we also perform as the local acoustic duo George & Nancy.

Back in the 1980s, I ran a small print business and published Inverse, a poetry magazine. I self-published my first poetry chapbook, Jade, in 1997. In 2004, I founded Write Now!, a friendly writers’ group aimed at encouraging creativity, improving writing, and helping members get published. One of our proudest achievements was the 2011 release of our self-published anthology My Daughter was an Astronaut. In 2007 a further selection of my poems, Signs, was published by local publisher Ask Publishing.

My latest poetry collection, Self Evidence, continues to explore the themes of death, love, and loss — ideas I first explored in Jade and Signs. My poems often lean towards the abstract but always aim to reflect the questions that matter most, namely: what is life, and what does it mean to be human?

I hope you enjoy having a look around the site,

George
